gourmet traveller wine - REVIEW BY mike bennie

Matured for 24 months in old French oak, this wine is comprised of roughly two thirds cabernet sauvignon. It shows a voluminous perfume of blue fruit, tobacco, pickled cherry and spices. The palate is punchy with suede tannis, dark fruit, dried fruit and clove-like spice. It has all the DNA of a great wine to cellar – firm tannis, brisk acidity and flourish with secondary character over time. I’d love to see it in a decade or so. MB

Australian wine review - review by andrew graham

67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Shiraz. Wild fermented, this spent 24 months in older French oak. TA 6.3, pH 3.73. Of all the Inkwell 13s this looks the most moderate. Dark red purple, the blackberry nose and juicy palate is wonderfully restrained and elegant in the context of Vale reds. It’s a bit bound and backward, but the powdery tannins are high class. Quality stuff. 18/20, 93/100+. 13.7%, $40.
